Dates and Info for December 2020

Moss Park Junior School Dates and Information for December 2020

Hello everyone, we are getting into that time of the year where we have lot of things going on so thought I would go through a few dates and items for you. Hope you find it useful.

Christmas Tree Decoration Assembly

Slightly different this year. Please bring baubles in from tomorrow. If you don’t have any that’s fine, we have lots of spares to choose from. We are going to record Y4/5/6 on Thursday 3rd December then at the end of a shorter FB Live Celebration Assembly on Friday 4th December, Year 3 will hang their baubles up and the youngest children in the school will turn the lights on while all the classes watch from their classrooms. Please join us: for those without Facebook, the videos will be on the school website later on Friday.

Christmas Post Box/Gifts for Teachers

Our Christmas Post box will be underneath the MPJs noticeboard outside school every morning for pupils to post their cards. Last Post day will be Friday11th December. We will hand out all cards on Monday 7th December and Monday 14th December. Some parents have asked me about presents for teachers – these are not expected (but we are always grateful) and we know the children get a thrill from handing them over! You can hand over presents as usual directly to teachers and we will just follow our common sense covid controls.

Our Charity Day/Non-Uniform Day – Friday 11th December

We support this local charity every other year. This project run entirely by volunteers takes prepared hot food and snacks to rough sleepers in south and central Manchester. They do a cracking job helping our most vulnerable members of society. We’ve talked about homelessness in Assembly this week and the pupils have been really thoughtful and understanding. On Friday 11th December, pupils can wear: Christmas/seasonal jumpers or simply own clothes in bright colours and please provide a donation or two of:

  • Food – Canned food (canned meat, canned fruit or veg), rice, pasta, just add-water snacks (pot noodle type pots
  • Drink – Bottles of water, bottles/cartons of soft drinks/juices
  • Male/Female Clothing: Coats, waterproofs, jumpers, t-shirts, jeans, tracksuit bottoms, new underwear, socks, hats, gloves. All items must be clean & in wearable condition
  • Toiletries – Single packaged toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, baby or wet wipes
  • Sleeping bags – Clean sleeping bags always welcome

You can find more information about the charity here: http://maddogshomelessproject.org.uk/

Parents Evening Dates/Virtual Pantomimes

Thanks for all those families who have booked their slots. If you haven’t, there are still some spaces so just phone the office and they will try to fit you onto the lists. Each year group will be watching the virtual pantomime we have booked, “Cinderella”, with me in the hall as part of the day when their teachers are at Sevenways Church Hall.

Reminder of dates: Thursday 3rd December (Year 6), Thursday 10th December (Year 4), Friday 11th December (Year 5), Thursday 17th December (Year 3)

Party Days

Tuesday 15th December (Lower KS2) and Thursday 17th (Upper KS2)

These will be taking place in class/year group bubbles. Pupils can come in own clothes and stay in them all day. You will be getting a letter about party food contributions we are asking you to bring in. with a heavy heart, I have to say we can’t have the usual fresh food you lovingly make for us – samosas etc. We are going to ask for sealed packets only. TAs will make up and distribute party plates of food to the children so we can be covid secure and still have a good time.

Uniform Sale

We have reunited all uniform with names on to the children, but we still have lots of logo uniform with no name on! We have washed and ironed everything. It will be all hung up in the area outside school from 3pm each night in the last week. There will be an honesty box outside and feel free to take items – suggested donation £2 per sweatshirt/cardigan. Going forward… please label everything!

School Uniform/ PE Kit

All our children look smart most of the time and there is just the odd thing that may be slipping a bit. I am doing a uniform check tomorrow in assemblies. Just a reminder for you so you can re-stock at home if needed:

  • Fashion/coloured trainers are not allowed as a school shoe (black only)
  • Knee boots for girls (and boys) are not allowed in school. If your child wears them to school, you need indoor shoes to change in to as we do when it is ‘wellies weather’!

Please remember that pupils will wear PE pumps provided if there is not a reasonable short term reason for not having the correct footwear

  • Pupils must wear school jumper/cardigan on PE day. PE is indoors now until February half term so no need for hoodies etc.
  • White t shirt (preferably with school logo), plain black/grey/blue shorts or long joggers/leggings only for PE kit please (no football kits/bright colours)
  • We do not have a rule for what trainers your child wears on PE day – that is fine as the children stay in PE kit all day
  • Some children are coming to school without coats – if the temperature drops we won’t let the children out without a coat so please make sure they have a coat and gloves etc. for when we get a cold snap

We hope you are able to watch our Celebration Assembly on Friday so you can see the ‘big switch on’. We tell the children about how Winter Festivals around the world bring light to the darkness and at this difficult time we are living through, I know it will give all of our school community – of all faiths or none - a big lift!

Yours truly,

Mrs Nunwick and all the Staff at Moss Park Junior School
