Headteacher Weekly Bulletin 30th October 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have a lovely break and managed to get some quality family time. We had record numbers at our Holiday Sports Club this time round and It looked like all the children were enjoying themselves! Mr Irvine completed the painting of the dark Edwardian tiles in classrooms and they look bright and clean. The new windows installed over the holidays in year 5 make an attractive, safe and warm improvement too. The PTFA committee and I met with Trafford Housing Social Investment Fund team before we broke up to discuss bidding for grants to help create big plans for a cookery room and training (hopefully Easter 2020). Our next improvement will be adding panels to the fitness trail to keep it fresh and exciting for the children.

Thank you for supporting the children in their  Holiday Homework Challenges. Some of them are bigger than the children themselves! Once again we are so impressed with the effort and creativity. We are displaying them in the hall so that children can show their classmates. They will be returned to you on Monday 4th November.

Outdoor Classroom Day Thursday 7th November

We are taking our learning outside and our focus will be on Geography fieldwork. I will send a reminder our but children will need warm coats and boots/wellies just in case!

Parking and Driving on Moss Park Road

The presence of the Police outside the two schools sparked lots of interest in the last week of half term. This was a routine visit because of the well-known driving and parking issues outside schools. PLEASE be aware that bad habits can cost lives. Most of the issues are caused by parents wanting to drop their children off in the road right outside school so they don't have to park up. We have double the issue with our two schools and this is just not safe. We operate an 8.40 am 'drop and go' system at MPJS and if you want to avoid the traffic, you can come 10 minutes earlier than school starts. Your children are safely supervised by a teacher on the playground. Alternatively, park further away from school and walk the last few metres. This also reduces pollution near our children! Walk to School Week is Monday 18th November and our pupil Road Safety team will be working hard to plan a great week!

Early Election Closure Day

I can't believe that I am having to inform you about another unexpected closure day resulting from an Election. We do apologise for the disruption but these extraordinary events are beyond our control. We have made some small changes to the events calendar:

  • The afternoon performance of the Y3 Christmas Play will be moved from Thursday 12th to Wednesday 11th December. This will be at 2.00 pm.
  • Christmas Dinner for pupils will now be on Friday 13th December.

PTFA Glitter and Glow Disco Thursday 14th November (PTFA letters to follow)

We are very excited about this event as we will have lots of fun and games as usual AND we hope to have our new hall lights installed by then. We have bought a system that will light up the stage for productions and concerts, and also provide us with a party atmosphere for events. We are also investigating a microphone system that will ensure that all children can be heard from the back of a packed hall!

There is a reminder of some key upcoming dates on the previous bulletin. The school calendar has been updated too on the website.

Thank you,

Mrs Nunwick
