MPJS News Update 10th November 2020

Moss Park Junior School News Update 10/11/2020

Dear MPJS Families,

Well, here we go again – lockdown mark 2. Thank goodness schools are open this time round – remember those months of home schooling...?

We know that school is the best place for children and they are getting a fantastic education here at Moss Park Junior School in a safe and supportive environment. The catch-up of any missed learning is well and truly underway (as seen in all class’s pupil progress meetings with Mr Boyer and me). At least cases in the community might reduce now that there are more restrictions in place and we have some good news on the horizon with the vaccine announcement last night.

I am sorry about the last minute change to our after school club provision – we could not know that a lockdown was coming at the time. The children who had a place in those clubs will start the week beginning 4th January up to February half term. We will advertise any spare places once we know we have the go ahead!

Remembrance Day 11th November 2020

If your child is in Brownies/Guides/Cub/s Scouts/Boys Brigade etc., they may wear their uniform tops tomorrow for Remembrance Day. If you are new to MPJS, we do this on the days of the Patron Saints of Great Britain and Ireland too. Next one = St Andrew’s Day on 30th November.

Flu vaccination

If for any reason you missed the school flu ‘jab’ day, then please telephone the 0333 358 3397 number on your letter to rearrange an appointment. They will help you with the form and direct you to a pop-up centre locally.

Entry to school in the mornings 8.40 am – 8.55 am

We supervise the area in front of school and our teachers are on duty in class from 8.40 am – this is when we open the gate. I have noticed an increasing number of pupils congregating around the gate from about 8.20 am recently. This risks mixing of year group bubbles, your child is not being supervised and there is no shelter from bad weather. If you need a Breakfast Club place, please use us. You don’t have to be a regular and it doesn’t matter if you have had your breakfast – you can just play; it is just £2 per day from 8.00 am and is free to pupils in receipt of free school meals. Contact the Office or book on Parent Pay. Otherwise, children should not be arriving at school until a few minutes before 8.40 am.

Extra homework challenge competition

Last weekend, our local police force, GMP Trafford North announced that they are hosting an exciting competition! They would like YOU to draw or paint your best picture of a member of the police force. You can choose to draw them on horseback or working with their dog unit - it is totally up to you. Once you have created your picture, pop it in a front window of your home so that they can see it when they are working hard to keep us all safe! To officially enter into the competition, ask a parent or a responsible adult to submit your entry to 'Walshy' (our local PC) at 15448@gmp.police.uk

Next charity event for MPJS

We are supporting Mad Dogs Street Project (based in Chorlton) again this year. This outreach charity cooks huge batches of hot meals and delivers them to rough sleepers on the streets of Manchester. We will be sending a list of foodstuffs – plus other items – that can be brought in to help those most in need this winter. Each class will decorate a box or two to store their donations and we will deliver them in the last week of term.

Parents ‘Evenings’

These were hugely successful in July and you told us that you had appreciated the way we had organised the time slots – plenty of time between and good social distancing and cleaning in place. We are going to use the Sevenways Hall again. We are just securing our dates but these are likely to be Thursdays and Fridays from 9.00 – 5.30 pm in December when there will be no other users.  When I have confirmed the dates, we will send out a paper slip for you to return with your preferred time slot. More details will be on the slip about our covid health and safety arrangements. Staff who are within the year group bubble will cover classes.

PTFA Movie Nights

We wanted to do these for all bubbles this half term but we will now be holding two year group bubble Movie Nights in the Hall on Thursdays in mid-December (Y6 on 10th December and Y5 on 17th December) and two events on Thursdays in January (Y3 on 14th January and Y4 on 21st January). Confirmed dates and times to follow once we know lockdown is over.

Dates for your Diary

Date

Event

Monday 30th November

  • Launch of our Mad Dogs Street Project food collection for Christmas
  • St Andrew’s Day – pupils in uniformed organisations can wear their special tops.

Tuesday 1st December

School Christmas Tree Dressing Celebration – bring a spare bauble from home OR your child can use one of ours (all cleaned). We will pre-record Y4/5/6 for you, upload to Facebook and the school website. We will then show Y3 decorating the tree and singing their seasonal songs during a Facebook Live event. The youngest child in our school will turn the lights on. The rest of the school will watch this from their classrooms!

Thursday 10th December

Y3 & Y4 will be watching Trafford Music Orchestra’s live zoom concert! Y4 missed out last summer and Y3 might not get to the usual annual concert so they will ‘come to us’!

Tuesday  15th December

Lower Junior (Y3 & Y4) Party Day – details to follow

Thursday 17th December

Upper Junior (Y5 & Y6) Party Day – details to follow

Friday 18th December

Autumn Term Certificate Assembly Facebook Live – we have double the certificates today as we do 4 x Super Learners of the term and 4 x MPJS Values Ambassadors per class.

It is hard to try and book events at the moment as things keep changing but I want to at least try! School would be a dull place if we didn’t try to do the extras and we look forward to seeing you to talk about your children’s progress later this term.

Don’t forget that you can email me directly on info@mpjs-trafford.co.uk for any updates re: Covid. I have access to this email outside of ‘school hours’ and will help and advise where I can.
