Below you will find a ‘Pick and Mix’ of activities that you could do with your children - away from the workbooks/packs we have sent out. Feel free to add them to your daily timetables/rotas. There’s some really good content here.

For all subjects, check out BBC Bitesize who are starting online lessons from 20th April - Have a look at their weekly timetable for your child’s year group. Here’s a sample timetable:

The Department for Education have spuported the set up of a Virtual School - The OAK Academy. Here is a link to the home page and thre is a useful video to explain how it works:

Reading

  • Time to read independently or with an adult or sibling. Reading every day is important! This can be your reading book, a magazine, the newspaper, the back of DVD blurb, instructions of a food packet... Anything!  
  • Many authors have been recording videos of themselves reading their books including much loved author Oliver Jeffers (https://www.oliverjeffers.com/abookaday). 
  • BBC School Radio https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/english-ks1--ks2--ks3-index/zf34gwx - BBC School radio offers a huge selection of audio books and various other podcasts to support other curriculum areas
  • Abdo Digital - https://abdodigital.com/ - Abdo’s entire eBook collection is now available for children to access for free. You’ll find anything from comics to biographies.
  • Phonics Play - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/# This website is offering a free login for parents during the lockdown. It may be useful for children who are focusing on their phonics and decoding skills
  • Book Trust - https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/ With character, quizzes, illustration tutorials and interactive games, The Book Trust makes story time fun for all the family
  • World Book Day - https://www.worldbookday.com/ Although we have already celebrated World Book Day this year, there is still lots of literature to explore online including activity packs and yummy recipes
