Headteacher Weekly News 28th January 2020

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Yesterday's weather reports saw me worrying about whether our Severe Weather Plan was up to date (it is!). I think I may have been a bit too keen as we've only had 5 minutes of sleet but it is best to be prepared - not sure if we can beat our fantastic day in the fresh snow last year though!

We started the week with an assembly on Holocaust Memorial Day and listened to some violin music from the film Schindler's List. The theme this year is 'We Stand Together' and we thought about ways we can support each other in school and in the community.

Miss Isbister led two lower school and upper school assemblies to talk about the Sign Health charity - we are joing in with Sign2Sing again and will make a donation from School Fund to the charity. You can find the song (Join Hands) with the signing on the http://sign2sing.org.uk/ website.

Well done to our Y4 and Y5 Swimming Team. Every swimmer gave 100%, learnt a lot about relays and competition , showed great team work and swam hard! Thanks to the parents who came to support - we had more parents there than any other school. Our Y4 Boys and Y5 girls have quaified for the Trafford Finals next month.

Year 4 Swimmers Top Up lessons

Did you know that we pay extra from our PE & Sports Grant so our non-swimmers in Y4 can have 16 extra free lessons? These start next week. We are passionate about all our pupils getting an equal chance to reach the national standard of being able to swim 25 metres - front and back strokes.

E Safety Quality Mark Assessment Day Friday 31st January

Thanks to the small group of parents who came in last Friday to find out more about our E safety work. The lady is coming in to assess us on Friday 31st January and I would be very grateful if you could give 15/20 minutes of your time from 8.45 am. I'm going to send an online safety information sheet out tomorrow. Perhaps ask your child what THEY know about internet safety - they probably know more than us adults! Anyway, all welcome (we will meet in the Library) and of course there will be tea, coffee biscuits and juice for any pre-school children.

We've updated our Mobile Phone and Devices policy to include Smart watches - some of our children have started wearing Apple Watches to school. These are not allowed as they can be used for taking photos, internet connection etc. You may find new forms coming home - if your child brings a phone into school to keep in the office for the walk to and from school so please do have a read and sign/return to school. Our updated policy is on the website and smartwatches are now included in the School Uniform Policy.
