Headteacher's Weekly Bulletin 11th June 2019

Welcome back to school. I hope you have all enjoyed some lovely family time together despite the awful wet weather!

A belated "Eid Mubarak" to all our muslim families. We started the week with an pupil-led Assembly where children could share how they had spent the eve and day of Eid. Please continute to send in your Eid photos for our display - you can email school and we will print out if you like.

We have also watched a channel 4 film clip in assembly today on the 75th anniversary of D Day. It was very moving to see the few veterans from World War 2 left and also surprising to hear how many Moss Park pupils have someone in their family who was in that conflict. I reminded the pupils that they are the future generation who may be able to deliver peace in the world - there is always hope.

*News Flash* Next year's early May Bank holiday has been moved by the Government to Friday 8th May 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2 (VE Day). The holiday list has been amended and new paper copies are now in the office.

Race for Life Big Thank You

We are overwhelmed with the support and generosity of families who took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life on the last day of term. We had such a great morning and all the pupil lapped the field 5 times - an amazing 3k. The new Mayor of Trafford was our VIP guest and we had lots of parents coming to support the event. Please bring in sponsor forms by Monday 17th June so that we can send the money off to Cancer Research.

School uniform update

The Governing Body have agreed that we will be introducing ties in September 2019. As earlier stated, these will not be compulsory for the first year, but will the year after (other than the period of the summer alternative options - red polo shirts and summer dresses). John McHugh have provided us with some ties and the pupils (including Year 2s coming up) will vote for their favourite this week. They will be available in the shop from the end of July. The ties will have the option of velcro, elastic or clip on fastenings.

As you know, we started phasing out white polo shirts last year and in Setember 2020 they are no longer a part of our uniform at all. 'School shirts' only to be worn please, whether you decide to add a tie or not.

We are also simplifying PE kit. Pumps are no longer to be worn in the hall - this is on the advice of our PE consultants as bare feet are better at gripping and for gymnastics etc. Trainers will continue to be worn for outdoor work. Pupils will walk down to the hall in their shoes for safety reasons. The updated uniform policy and list can be found on the website.

Stafffing next year

We don't have any teachers moving on to new schools this summer (hoooray!). The classes will look like this in September: We wanted to tell you first and will tell the children in the morning.

Current Class New Class Teacher
TBA 3E Mrs Edwards
TBA 3H Miss Higson
3E 4T Mr Tarry
3H 4M Miss McEvoy
4H 5J Miss Jones
4T 5H Miss Horvath
5J 6B Mr Boyer
5M 6I Miss Isbister

Teaching Assistants will be allocated to classes later this term according the level of additional need in each class. We are mixing up year 2 for the first time as it is a natural time for a change, it will encourage pupils to widen their social circle and can ensure we allocate staff accordingly.

Sports Day Postponement

The long period of wet weather has meant that the field is soaked and unsuitable for sports day, even if we get a few dry days. Therefore Sports day will NOT go ahead on 20th June, but will be postponed to Wednesday 10th July. It will be races in the morning and team games in the afternoon.

If we are still struggling with the weather, our Plan C is to split the day and have the traditonal races on the morning of the summer fair (Friday 12th July) and team games on the afternoon of Wednesday 17th July.

Mosstermind Quiz -are you ready?

Don't forget we have our big Team Quiz on Friday 21st June. The pupils have been given two topics they have studied this year to revise and research for their class heat, before our red hot final in front of the audience in the hall. There will be 4 tables - 1 for each team - with a pupil from each class representing their team.

I think this is enough information for one newsletter - more to follow. I will check any new dates added since the last bulletin, and add them here.

Kind regards,

Mrs Nunwick
