In Science, year 5 have been learning all about living things and their life cycles. We have been looking at the life cycle of plants over the past few weeks, now that we have learned all about it, it is time for us to watch this process for ourselves by planting some plants of our own.

Y6 kicked off Penguin Watch today! Penguin Watch is real world research, where the children act as scientists, observing and identifying penguins in real photos. This helps the Penguin Watch team analyse the changing penguin population. Y3, 4 and 5 to follow- great work!

Year 4 spent some time today learning all about the water cycle and how United Utilities helps to provide clean water to our school and homes. 

We discussed changes in state, tips for saving water, water safety, how much water we use daily and even, how we could save our adults some money at home!

A big thank you to United Utilities and King Fisher Education for a wonderful and educational day.

Year 4's current topic in Science is looking at States of Matter! So far, we have looked at sorting objects into solids, liquids and gases and observing the different states of water.

 

We decided to investigate whether weight effects the temperature at which ice melts at. What do you think?

Last week, Year 4 spent some time in the school field and gardens looking at different natural objects and practising observational drawings.

We are currently looking at Victorian artist William Morris and how he used nature in many of his prints and artworks. 

We aim to finish this topic by re-creating some of his work and creating our own printed pieces of art using nature as inspiration!

Year 6 have been learning about ocean management in Geography. Using the Chromebooks, they researched why we are protecting our oceans, why UK seas are important and what Marine Protected Areas are.

This morning Year 5 researched the Vikings using QR codes. They then used this information to help them write an explanation text on why so many Vikings decided to settle in Britain.. we found out lots of interesting facts!

Y6 were very lucky to have a visit from Lady Baines this week. Lady Baines fled Czechoslovakia the day before Nazis invaded in WW2. She told us about her experiences of travelling to England and gave us the important message: don't be a bystander!

Year 5 started their new topic off by discovering the different parts of a plant. We learnt how each part helps with the fertilisation process. We then worked in groups to match each part up with the description. To make make it more fun we raced each group to see who could complete it the fastest!
